The Lord Speaks of Namdev’s Glory
After comforting Gonai, Lord Vitthal continued speaking gently, revealing the secret of Namdev’s divine mission. “O mother,” said the dark-hued Lord, “your son is not an ordinary soul. He is My eternal companion, descended to this world to awaken devotion in the hearts of men. Just as the wind cannot be seen but can be felt, My Nama has come invisibly from My abode of Vaikuntha, bringing with him the fragrance of pure bhakti.”

“The saints who appear in this world are My very limbs,” the Lord continued. “Through them, I taste the sweetness of My own name. They are not born out of karma; they descend by My will alone.”

He then explained, “In past ages, great devotees like Prahlada, Dhruva, and Narada were born to teach devotion amidst adversity. So too has your son come to reveal that I can be attained not through austerity or learning, but through love. Whoever sings his songs will obtain Me easily.”

The Mother’s Transformation
Gonai fell to her knees in astonishment. “O Lord of the universe, I never knew that the same child whom I scolded for his madness in devotion was a part of You. Forgive me, O merciful one!”

The Lord’s face shone with kindness. “Mother, do not repent. Your affection for Nama is itself holy. Because of your love, I have entered this house. You are blessed among women. When saints are born, their mothers become sanctified. As Aditi bore Vamana and Devahuti bore Kapila, so have you borne one who is My own heart.”

Gonai’s tears flowed freely. She bowed down again and again. “O Lord, what am I that You speak so to me? Let my life be spent serving Nama and those who sing Your praises.”

The Lord’s Assurance
Vitthal replied, “Mother, your wish is already fulfilled. From this day, wherever Nama’s name is uttered, your name too shall be remembered. Your son’s songs will cross rivers and kingdoms. Even when he leaves this world, his voice will live forever in the hearts of devotees.”

Then, with a radiant smile, the Lord faded into His image once more, leaving behind a divine fragrance that filled the temple.

Gonai stood silently for a long time, her heart overflowing with gratitude. She returned home no longer anxious about food or wealth, for now she knew her son’s destiny was written by the hand of God Himself.

Reflections – The Mother Who Understood

  1. God Reveals the Purpose of His Devotees
Every great soul comes with a divine mission. Though their lives may seem ordinary, their actions transform countless hearts. Recognizing such souls is the true beginning of spiritual wisdom.
  2. The Lord’s Compassion for the Devotee’s Family
God does not neglect those connected to His saints. Gonai’s motherly affection was turned into realization; her worldly worry became transcendental love.
  3. Bhakti Is Greater Than Birth or Background
Namdev was born in a tailor’s family, yet the Lord proclaimed him equal to Prahlada and Narada. True devotion surpasses caste, status, or learning.
  4. Saints Are God’s Living Voice
Through saints like Namdev, the Lord continues to speak and sing in this world. Their songs are eternal—alive with divine energy, purifying the hearts of those who hear them.
  5. Realization Transforms Sorrow into Joy
Once Gonai realized her son’s divine purpose, all her sorrow turned into bliss. Similarly, when we understand that our struggles serve a higher plan, life itself becomes sacred.
