This is the place where Rādhārāṇī and the gopīs, in order to enjoy some fun, performed the wedding ceremony (vivāha) between Kṛṣṇa and Candrāvalī’s best friend, Padmā.
On a signal from Rādhārāṇī, the gopīs began decorating Padmā with flowers, mehndi, and various other paraphernalia, just like a bride. After being decorated in this way, Padmā, completely unaware of what was going on, was escorted by the gopīs and seated next to Kṛṣṇa on a throne.
After tying the corner of her sari to Kṛṣṇa’s dhotī, the gopīs began showering flower petals and singing traditional wedding songs, which caused great embarrassment to Padmā, although internally she was completely ecstatic.
Reflections
This playful pastime reveals the joyful and spontaneous nature of devotion in Vraja. Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī and Her companions express love for Kṛṣṇa through humor, song, and affection. In their company, even lighthearted teasing becomes a sacred act of service.
Padmā’s outward shyness and inner bliss reflect the condition of the soul when touched by divine love. Before the world, it trembles in humility, but within, it rejoices in the presence of the Lord. In this simple act of playful devotion, the gopīs remind us that pure love is free from all formality — it flows naturally, expressing itself through laughter, tenderness, and the joy of being near Kṛṣṇa.
Prayer
O Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī, who fills Vraja with Your divine play, may my heart also become a field of Your joyous pastimes.
O Śrī Kṛṣṇa, who accepts even the laughter of Your devotees as worship, please teach me to serve You with a cheerful and loving heart.
Let my devotion be simple, pure, and full of delight — as the gopīs sang and laughed that day at Padmāvatī Vivāha Sthālī.
May every moment of my life become an offering of love and happiness at Your lotus feet.
