A Fisherman’s Trouble
A man complained that his boat only had one oar, yet his helper blamed the river for going in circles.
Birbal’s Correction
He said, “When you row with one oar—either logic or emotion—you only spin. It is when both oars work together—reason and devotion—that you move forward.”
Akbar’s Thought
The emperor smiled, “True, balance in all things brings harmony.”
Lesson to Be Learned
Bhakti is complete when both the heart and the mind are engaged. Knowledge without love is dry; emotion without knowledge is unstable. Together they carry the soul to the Lord.
