The Royal Invitation
Akbar once received an invitation to a feast from a nobleman. The king, along with Birbal, attended. However, when they arrived, the host offered a lavish seat but delayed the food with excuses.

Birbal’s Polite Escape
After much delay, Birbal said, “Your Highness, let us go.” Akbar agreed. When the nobleman protested, Birbal replied, “A guest’s honor lies not in words, but in action.”

Lesson Served
The king appreciated Birbal’s insight and later reminded all nobles to offer respect through deeds, not mere formality.

Lesson to Be Learned
In bhakti, love is shown by sevā—devotional service. Lord Kṛṣṇa accepts even a leaf or a drop of water offered with love (patraṁ puṣpaṁ phalaṁ toyam). Hypocrisy has no place in spiritual life.
