A Poor Man’s Melody
A beggar sat outside the court each day, singing praises of God. One day, Akbar gave him gold. The man still sang with the same sweetness.
A Courteous Question
Akbar asked, “Now that you are rich, why do you still sing?” The beggar replied, “I sang out of love, not hunger. My voice belongs to the Lord.”
Birbal’s Joy
“See,” Birbal said, “he is richer than many kings.”
Lesson to Be Learned
Devotion is not a transaction. The heart that sings for the Lord without demand, without fear, and without expectation is already liberated. Bhakti is love—not business.
