A Miser’s Complaint
A man came to court, upset. “My neighbor refuses to pay the proper share for the hen we purchased together! He says he wants only the front half!”
Birbal’s Amusing Judgment
Birbal asked, “Then why do you object?” The man replied, “He takes the eggs and gives me the back end!” Birbal replied, “Then you must collect the droppings! That is your rightful share.”
Justice Served with Humor
The court burst into laughter. Akbar appreciated the justice and wit with which Birbal exposed selfishness.
Lesson to Be Learned
Everyone wants the benefit but not the burden. A devotee, however, accepts both honor and dishonor, joy and pain, as Kṛṣṇa’s mercy. True spiritual life means responsibility in service, not enjoyment of results alone.
