A Test of Wit
One evening, Akbar asked, “Is it possible for a lamp to burn without oil?” All courtiers were puzzled. Birbal remained silent but smiled.
The Clever Demonstration
The next night, Birbal invited the emperor for a walk. He had arranged several lamps along the path. When they reached the end, Birbal pointed to the moon and said, “Look, there is a lamp burning without oil.”
The Emperor’s Delight
Akbar laughed joyfully. “You always bring light to my court, even without oil.”
Lesson to Be Learned
Just as the moon reflects the sun’s light, a devotee reflects the divine knowledge of Kṛṣṇa without pride or material need. One may not possess external resources, but through bhakti, one can illuminate the hearts of many. True brilliance comes from surrender to the Supreme.
