The Sannyāsī’s Trick
A fake renunciate came to the court claiming that whoever ate the golden mango he brought would have their sins destroyed. Many were attracted, hoping for easy liberation.
Birbal’s Bold Move
Birbal requested the mango. “If it truly destroys sins,” he said, “let the sannyāsī eat it first.” The man hesitated. “Why should I eat it?” he stammered. Birbal replied, “Then it is a lie, and you are a deceiver!”
Fraud Exposed
The impostor was driven from the court, and the people were warned against such cheats who exploit religion for gain.
Lesson to Be Learned
Real purification comes from chanting the holy name and sincere devotion—not from gimmicks. As Śrīla Prabhupāda says, “Chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa purifies the heart and leads to liberation—no need of false rituals.”
