(The Place Where Kutilā’s Fault-Finding Was Exposed)
The False Accusation
The word dūṣaṇa means “to criticize” or “to find fault,” and this sacred place near Jaṭilā’s house is known as Kutilā-Dūṣaṇa-Sthāna — the spot where Kutilā, the envious sister of Abhimanyu and daughter of Jaṭilā, once tried to find fault with Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī.
One day, Kutilā was searching for an opportunity to expose Rādhārāṇī and thus discredit Her before her mother and brother. By some arrangement of divine play, she suddenly discovered Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa meeting together in a room at this very spot.
Burning with jealousy, Kutilā quickly locked the door from outside and began shouting loudly, “I have caught Rādhā red-handed! She is inside with Her secret lover!”
Her voice rang through the whole village. Soon, Jaṭilā and Abhimanyu, along with other residents, rushed to the scene, curious and alarmed.
The Exposure of Kutilā
When the crowd gathered, Kutilā proudly announced her discovery. “Now everyone will see the truth!” she said with great satisfaction. She unlocked the door, expecting to find Kṛṣṇa and Rādhā inside together.
But to her complete astonishment, the door opened to reveal Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī sitting peacefully before a deity of Goddess Kālī, absorbed in worship. Lamps burned before the deity, and Rādhā’s hands were folded in reverence.
Kutilā froze, unable to speak. Jaṭilā and Abhimanyu turned toward her in shock and anger. “How could you make such an accusation?” they said. “You have insulted Rādhā, who is known for Her chastity and devotion!”
The entire crowd began to rebuke Kutilā for her false claim. Her face turned pale, her pride broken. She tried to defend herself, but her words found no ground.
What no one realized was that Kṛṣṇa Himself had taken the form of Goddess Kālī, standing silently as the deity before Rādhārāṇī, to protect Her honor and teach Kutilā a lesson.
Thus, Kutilā was humiliated, and Rādhārāṇī’s spotless reputation was gloriously preserved.
Reflections
This pastime reveals how the Lord always protects His devotee’s honor. Even when false accusations arise, Kṛṣṇa manifests in miraculous ways to uphold the dignity of His beloved.
Kutilā represents the fault-finding nature of the envious mind — always looking for imperfections in others, while blinded by its own shortcomings. Such envy leads to humiliation and spiritual blindness.
Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī, by contrast, embodies perfect humility and purity. Though She could easily have defended Herself, She remained calm, leaving Her protection entirely in Kṛṣṇa’s hands.
When the Lord defends His devotee, no worldly judgment can prevail. The critic is exposed, and the devotee shines all the brighter.
Lessons to Be Learned
- Fault-finding destroys devotion; humility protects it.
- Kṛṣṇa personally safeguards the honor of those who are pure in heart.
- The envious mind sees sin where there is sanctity.
- True purity needs no defense; Kṛṣṇa Himself stands guard over it.
Prayer
O Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī, purest of all, may I never speak a word that offends or belittles another devotee.
O Śrī Kṛṣṇa, who became Goddess Kālī to protect Your beloved, please protect my heart from envy and pride.
Let me see goodness in others and glorify them, rather than seek their faults.
May the humility of Rādhā and the mercy of Kṛṣṇa forever reside in my heart, that I may live only to serve and never to judge.
